Trust in the Unmerited Gift of God’s Grace
Have you ever heard or read something with perfect timing? Something that resonated with your heart? Something that made you wonder if the message was made just for you? This happened to me recently when I was offered the opportunity to read Grace Revealed: Finding God’s Strength in Any Crisis by Fred Sievert.
Not too many months ago I experienced a heart-shattering loss. I felt alone, abandoned, sad, angry, and any number of other adjectives. I find myself on the verge of intense anger and immense sadness. Then I found this book.
Throughout this book, Sievert shares the beautiful life stories of real people who have dealt with real addictions, abuse, physical and emotional challenges, and loss. He presents these stories through the words and actions of the people who experienced them. Reading these stories from their point of view is powerful and beautiful.
Sievert pairs each story with beautiful Scripture passages. The scripture points the reader to verses of healing, bold prayers, the power of prayer, and forgiveness. Overarching each of these verses, however, is a portrait of God’s grace.
“And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm, and steadfast.” 1 Peter 5:10
One quote that stood out for me when reading this book was, “Worshipping God even in the midst of tragedy shows that we have full confidence in His plan for our lives, even if we have difficulty understanding why it happened.” When I read this quote, it made me think about how often we find ourselves in tough situations and wonder why these things happen.
When life throws you curveballs, it’s hard to know what the next steps should be. You may feel broken or alone and think that no one cares about your struggles… but God does!
I realized my loss might actually fit into God’s plan. He always has a purpose no matter what happens or what hurt we experience along life’s journey. I am having serious difficulty understanding why my loss happened. But, I am comforted by the fact that God has a plan, even for this.
I truly enjoyed reading the stories in this book. It is well-written and carefully edited and shares a great message of comfort and hope. This book has a strong Christian and Biblical focus.
If you are needing reassurance in a difficult time, pick up this book. You won’t be sorry.
